Super Junction MOSFET

Super Junction MOSFET

A Super Junction MOSFET is a type of power MOSFET (Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor) designed to handle high voltages and currents efficiently, particularly in power electronics applications.

Super junction MOSFETs have a unique structure that contains alternating P-type and N-type regions in the semiconductor material. This structure helps distribute the electric field more evenly throughout the device than conventional MOSFETs, resulting in better performance at higher voltages.

Benefits of superjunction MOSFETs include lower on-resistance (RDS(on)), which reduces power loss and improves efficiency, especially in high-power applications such as power supplies, motor drives and inverters. They also have better switching characteristics due to reduced gate charge and switching losses.
